With minutes to spare, I submitted my entry for this year’s Hunting Art Prize. We shall see what happens. I really like participating in this contest because it’s free, and winner-take-all. I’ve been working on a series of paintings called “Woman in…”
The purpose of this project is to imagine and paint women in a bunch of different emotional situations. So far, I’ve painted 5 (but only photographed 3) and I have 3 more works in progress that are ready to show and another 3 works [...]

This is part of my “Woman in…” series. When I painted this, I was thinking about what “intense” would look like.
When I think about someone who is intense, I think:
-About getting up in somebody’s face.
-About having so much energy & emotion, you can’t get the words out.
-It’s about burning up.
-It’s about burning out.

This painting is about the transitory nature of the brain. How memories, emotions, thoughts and feelings all fade away, or change. But how some things like beliefs or your happiest memory are locked in and seemingly unchangeable.

I also finished this in July. I’m going through a period of being obsessed with the heart. This is acrylic on canvas. On the original, the blue is much richer. The white is actually chrome and very reflective.
I finished her and she’s leaving today. I get separation anxiety when my paintings go somewhere else to live. On the one hand, it frees up my brain and wall space so I can continue to create new things, on the other hand I miss my paintings because photos can’t do them justice.

1. Finish the paintings “Venus” and “Shattered Woman in Flames” (As of 4/2/7 – did not meet this goal)
